Proposed New Governance Documents
With our AGM next week, the leadership of Saskatoon Métis Local 126 have decided to propose a new set of governance documents for the Local. This includes:
Articles of Incorporation
We already have these from when we incorporated, but we are clarifying a few details and cleaning up a few issues.
Constitution
Locals are expected to enact a constitution. As such, we have decided to introduce a constitution that defines the overall structure and processes of Local 126.
Bylaws
Because there is a difference in the purposes of a constitution and bylaws for corporations, we decided to focus our bylaws on the rules for operating Local 126.
There were also problems in our current bylaws in the definitions used, and some of the contents that were included should not be part of bylaws (e.g., policies). As such, we decided to create a new set that is clearer about certain matters (including footnotes that refer to relevant sources) and has correct definitions and language.
We are going to be asking members to vote on the adoption of these governance documents at our AGM. According to our current bylaws, we are required to present the proposed bylaw amendments seven days before the AGM, which is why we are sharing them today and emailing them to the membership. Please note that there might be minor changes to wording in the final version, but any changes will be reviewed at the AGM prior to adopting these governance documents.
If you have any questions, feel free to send us an email and we will do our best to provide an answer. Maarsii.
